A packed house was captivated as Michael drew them into the intricacies of the incredible IMOCA 60 yachts and what he will likely face as he competes in the Transat Jacques Vabre, a 5000nm dash from France to Brazil - the old coffee route across the Atlantic - which starts at Le Harve on 26th October.
However before he sets sail, another ocean sailor will be calling at EABC. On Wednesday 18th September we will welcome Jackie Patton. The Chairman of RYA-NI will be talking not only 'Women-on-Water', but her time within the British Olympic sailing team. More recently she fulfilled her dream of challenging the toughest oceans as a crew member on board the Clipper yacht GB&NI. This lady has so much going on it's difficult to keep pace with her. Again, this promises to be another night to remember - save the date!
Speaking about the series, principal organiser Tom Jobling said."As you'll see from the attached poster we've gathered together another diverse selection of speakers for the members 'ashore' enjoyment. I'm overjoyed that the opening night got off to such a successful start, so in turn I ask you for your continued support. Bring a friend next time, and remember to hassle your crew(s) along too. Finally, as this will be my last series I would dearly love for a volunteer or two to work with me, and to accept and carry the baton through to the next series of MID-WEEK SESSIONS ... it's great when a plan come together."
Remember ... 1st & 3rd Wednesday of Sept. Oct & Nov.
Usual time; 7:30pm (bar opens at 7!)
Putting the programme together takes a considerable amount of time, if you could assist please contact Tom or the Commodore, to ensure it's a pleasure and not a burden. Tom can provide expert mentoring - two or three people sharing the role would be great.
